Gate valves are designed to fully open or completely shut off a pipeline. Installed as gate or shut-off valves, they are not intended for flow regulation. Operation is typically manual via a Handwheel.

Key Features

Haeger gate valves allow full opening or closing of pipelines with minimal pressure loss. Thanks to their robust construction and high resistance to temperature and media, they are suitable for a wide range of industrial applications. They can be operated manually or via gearbox and withstand temperatures from -196 °C to +600 °C and pressures up to 400 bar.

Nearly pressure-loss-free flow

Fully open gate valves provide an unobstructed flow path, ensuring minimal pressure loss. This makes them well suited for applications with high flow rates and efficiency requirements.

Robust and versatile

Suitable for water, oil, gas, steam, and abrasive media. Their robust construction makes gate valves suitable for a wide variety of media. Depending on the design, they can reliably withstand extreme conditions with temperatures from -196 °C to +600 °C and pressures up to 400 bar.

Highly reliable shut-off technology with low energy consumption

The gate moves precisely along a rising stem via manual or gearbox operation, allowing pipelines to be fully opened or closed safely and permanently without pressure surges or turbulence.

Gate Valve

Industry - Forged Small Gate Valve

Forged steel gate valves are durable, metal-seated units designed for fully opening or closing pipelines. They are available in carbon or stainless steel, in various configurations (such as bolted bonnet), and with different connection types. Stellite-coated seat surfaces extend service life, TA-LUFT packing reduces emissions, and operation in hazardous (Ex) areas is easily achievable.

The gate valves offered by Haeger Industrial Valves are suitable for a wide range of media, including oil, water, gas, and steam. They withstand temperatures from –320 °F to +1112 °F (–196 °C to +600 °C) and pressures up to 400 bar.

Key Features of Gate Valves

Our high-performance gate valves provide a clear, unrestricted flow path, ensuring dependable opening and closing of pipelines. They handle water, gas, oil, steam, and even media containing solids, which makes them well suited for demanding high-pressure and high-temperature applications - including operation in hazardous (Ex-rated) environments. Optional bypass lines can also be integrated if required.

Robust gate valves with metal seats

Metal-seated gate valves, developed as early as the 18th century, feature a recessed body seat with a sealing ring to ensure tight shut-off. For abrasive media, the seat can be additionally hard-welded to reduce corrosion and wear. Thanks to their sturdy design, they are particularly suitable for industrial applications with temperatures up to 800 °C – significantly higher than soft-seated variants. A typical drawback is that contaminants in the seat may prevent complete closure and affect leakage performance.

Gate valves with rising stem

The rising stem is connected to the wedge and enables the valve to open or close. Because these valves are designed with external stem threads, the stem can be easily lubricated, ensuring smooth operation even after long periods of use.

Bypass to equalize differential pressure

For larger nominal sizes, bypass lines can be installed. These bypass valves equalize the pressure between the wedge plates, allowing easier operation. They can also delay the filling of pipelines. To prevent stagnation, the gate valve can be closed while the bypass valve remains open, maintaining continuous flow.

Valve design

A gate valve is an industrial shut-off valve in which the closure element moves linearly and perpendicular to the flow in the sealing area. Gate valves are manufactured for small to large nominal sizes and cover all pressure and temperature ranges. A key characteristic is the full-bore design when open, resulting in very low pressure losses and higher flow velocities. Another advantage is the valve’s suitability for pigging.

Depending on the closure element, designs include solid-wedge and flexible-wedge types. Another design criterion is the bonnet-to-body connection, available as welded bonnet, bolted bonnet, or pressure seal.

External stem thread (outside screw and yoke)

The stem operates with an axial lifting movement. Unlike globe valves, the handwheel does not rise. The external thread allows the stem position to be checked visually, making it easy to determine the wedge position. Although the stem is exposed to contamination, it can also be cleaned and lubricated without difficulty.

Connection types

Gate valves are available with flanged, socket-weld or butt-weld ends. Flanged connections are the standard method for attaching the valve to the pipeline and enable gasket replacement without major axial movement of the pipeline.
